9th Grade Letter          10-12 Grade Letter

The Oak Ridge TN School System String Orchestra Program is one of the most successful music education programs in the United States. We have a 35 year history of excellence and have won numerous awards at regional, state and national competitions. The program includes grades 4 thru 12 and has grown from a few dozen students in 1970, to 600 today, making us the largest primary and secondary school String Orchestra in the South East.

ORHS has seen many students continue their music studies at colleges across the US, often with the benefit of scholarship awards. This program is part of a public school system, in a small Tennessee town, which makes it truly unique and an example of the good things that can happen when we have leaders that care.

The program was established in the 1970 by Mr. Edgar Meyer, Sr. and has been directed by Ms. Jenifer van Tol since 1988. Please explore our webpage to learn more about this one-of-a-kind program that is dedicated to excellence and is open to all students who wish to participate.
